What Is the Employee Retention Credit (ERC)?
The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) is a refundable payroll tax credit that is a part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. ERC provides qualifying employers with up to $26,000 in payroll tax credits for wages and health insurance paid to W-2 employees from 2020 to 2021. The credit was created in response to the economic shutdown and aims to reward employers for retaining employees on payroll during the pandemic.

Is there a deadline for submitting an ERC claim?

Can nonprofit organizations apply for the ERC?
Yes! If they match the requirement, nonprofit organizations can claim the ERC.
If my company received a PPP loan, am I still eligible to claim the ERC?
Yes, you may still be qualified to receive the ERC even if your company received a Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP) loan. If you are eligible, you can use the qualified wages of your employees when submitting an ERC claim; however, you cannot provide the exact wages you used for the PPP loan.
How long is it taking for employers to receive their ERC claims?
The process takes a minimum of 6 months, however; it might take longer depending on the processing time by the IRS. We advise our clients to be patient since the process might be lengthy. It is also important to note that, upon submission, the credit decision is up to the IRS.
